'Pirates of the Caribbean' came to Priory Prep recently as over 200 parents and boys attended the 'Pirates Party' organised by the PSA (Parents Association). Everyone came dressed as a pirate and danced the night away accompanied by a band of 'old sea dogs.' The PSA organised burgers, sausages, pop corn, ice cream and plenty of drink.
'The boys had a great time' said one mother, 'My son had been looking forward to it all week. He loved it and fell asleep with his costume on when we got home!' Several boys won prizes for their costumes as did one grandfather who came along to support.
The next PSA event is the 'Children's Disco' followed by the 'Boys Shopping Day for Christmas' and then 'The Christmas Fair.' Do come along and join us and help raise funds for the school.
Priory Preparatory School is pleased to announce that Mrs Serena Broad is the new Chair of Governors, taking over from Mr John Spalton. Serena is a director of her own business as well as being the mother of an ex-Priory boy who is now at a local Independent School. Serena has been on the board of Governors since 2002 and has been closely involved in the school's development. Serena said,' I am delighted to be the new Chair of Governors at Priory Prep and I am looking forward to working with the Headmaster, parents, staff, boys and fellow Governors to continue to develop opportunities for the boys. Having been a parent from Nursery to Year 8 I am acutely aware of what life is like at Priory Prep.' Serena is the first female chair in over 88 years.
Just before the end of term Priory Preparatory School passed an Ofsted registration inspection which enables boys 2-3 years of age to attend the school. This enables parents to send their sons to Priory Prep from 2 years of age through to 13 years of age.
Headmaster Graham Malcolm said, 'We are delighted to extend our age range in this way and give parents the peace of mind that their sons are in a good school and do not have any worries for the years ahead.'
Places are limited for September 2009 and interested parents are asked to contact the school on 01737 366920 or use this website to make an enquiry. All messages will be returned over the summer but may be subject to a slight delay due to staff holidays.
Mr Andy Pag, an Eco-Warrior, gave the prizes away at this year's ceremony. Mr Pag drove a car from London to Greece powered entirely by chocolate. After appearing recently on the BBC's children's programme Blue Peter he was recognised immediately by the boys and they listened intently as he explained how he was planning to drive across Europe powered on chip fat! Mr John Spalton, Chairman of Governors, spoke about the role of Governors and how they used their knowledge and experience to benefit the school. The Headmaster spoke of the opportunities the boys had at Priory Prep School and encoraged them to join in and 'have a go' at new challenges and activities. The evening was rounded off by Music Scholar James Ainsworth playing the harp which brought about rapturous applause.
Once again the Boys beat their parents in the annual cricket matches. The Colts took on a confident Dads X1 captained by Mr Williams, the Colts Captain's father. Runs soon began to flow as the boys batted and the fathers struggled to roll back the years! When the fathers batted they found it difficult to fend off the accurate bowling and fielding from the boys. Despite some imaginative scoring the boys ended up winning comfortably.
The mums played two matches against their sons, one at Under 8, the other at Under 9. The boys won both matches but a great deal of fun was had by one and all. The biggest hit of the day was not with a cricket bat but was the match tea! Many thanks to all the mums for being 'good sports' but also for providing such a delicious tea.
Congratulations to all the Year 8 boys who successfully secured a place at their Senior School with some very impressive marks at Common Entrance. Year 4 boys have just returned from their first residential trip with the school having visited Sayers Croft in Ewhurst. Sayers Croft is a beautiful, safe and secure site with 56 acres of woodlands, meadows, ponds and fields and has been providing quality outdoor experiences for young people for over 70 years. The boys took part in a night walk, raft building, orienteering, den building and listened to bats communicating through bat boxes. Mrs Landaueur, the Year 4 teacher said, ‘The boys had a great time, learnt a great deal and have started to appreciate their environment’. Priory Prep boys play at Wembley Stadium
The 1st XV were invited to play at the new Wembley Stadium before Christmas in the curtain-raiser match before The Barbarians played Australia. It is not the first time that the famous blue and pink hoops of Priory Prep have graced the lush turf of a famous pitch as previously we have also played at Twickenham. The boys really enjoyed their experience. One said ' I can now tell everyone that I played on THE pitch at Wembley'. A parent who watched was thrilled for their son, ' How many boys play at Wembley, I am so proud of my son!'
